Welcome to Jones Family Footsteps!
This site is dedicated to that timeless American favorite – the road trip. If you find yourself dreaming, wishing, planning or plotting to pack up and take off down the road to explore this great country of ours, we’re right here beside you. If you came here to look at shoes, feet or footprints in the sand sorry to disappoint you but that’s not what this is about.
The Joneses
Hey guys, I’m Barbra. I’m a freelance writer and Mom from Arlington Texas. I’m married to Anthony and we have two kids, Joshua and Katie. We also have two dogs: A Jack Russell Terrier named Riley and a Bichon Frise named Sugar. We love to travel and more specifically we love road trips. We prefer taking our time on the road and enjoying the experience, rather than just rushing to our destination. Someone suggested writing about our travels and that was how the idea for this blog was born.
Summer 2019 Road Trip
On May 9th 2019 we will be leaving Texas and traveling around the United States all summer. I will be blogging every step of the way. We will be gone a total of four months. We plan to cover a big part of the South, Midwest and New England. In 2020 we will try to get to whatever states we miss. Our ultimate goal is to road trip to all 48 states in the continental United States.
Come Join Us
While you can’t literally join us (it might get a little crowded in the car) we would love for you to follow along with us on our journey. In addition to updates on our trip I will also be sharing travel tips and much more to help you plan your own American Road Trip.

Happy Travels,
Oh my!! I love this and cant wait to hear more!!
It is nice to meet you and your family and as a traveler myself, I know just how many adventures that await you with the upcoming trip around the continental US. It will likely provide a rich source for interesting blogs that we can all enjoy, and I look forward to reading about the adventures of the Jones family on their road trip!
Are you planning on pulling a trailer, or perhaps stay in hotels and motels? There are advantages to each and disadvantages. In our earlier years, we used to pull a trailer and stay in the camping spots that dot the country, but as we have gotten older, generally we will stay in hotels or motels these days.
In any case, I am sure that you will tell us and show us (pictures, please!) all the neat things you find on your 4-month trip (that is huge by the way). Most certainly you will be able to take your time and see a lot that most people do not have the time to see.
We have made trips throughout Europe, Eastern Europe, and across North America over the decades, and also have had many smaller trips to other places in Asia (i.e. Thailand, China, the Philippines, Japan, etc.). I still have the wanderlust but now have to plan a little more carefully than in the carefree days of the past.
Best of luck as you get ready to head out and the preparation process might also make for some valuable posts that you can share here with us all. That alone will provide some entertainment and lessons I think.
Hi Dave. We are staying in hotels right now but later on we will be staying in some Airbnb’s and campgrounds. We will also be staying with relatives here and there. I will be sure to post pictures. Your trips through Europe and Asia sound so fun. I was in Europe once about 16 years ago and I’ve been wanting to go back ever since. Hopefully we will get there someday.
This is such a great idea, and I am sure the kids will love going to all of those states this summer. New England is absolutely beautiful, and there is so much rich history to see and learn about. If you are looking to relax and eat amazing food, I would recommend hitting up Old Orchard Beach, ME. They have some of the best pizza and pier fries I have tasted!
Have a great time and I look forward to reading about your adventures!
Thank you for your comment and suggestion about Maine. The timing is great too. We’ve been trying to decide on where to go in Maine so that helps a lot! We will check it out for sure.
